Since 2014 AIWA-SF has been sponsoring English lessons for the girls at Mer-Hooys, a residential home, where severely disadvantaged girls live. Empowering our youth with the skills for the future is a big focus of AIWA-SF and thus having one of our English programs within Mer-Hooys is a natural fit. As Armenia continues to grow as a business, technology and tourist destination, having English knowledge and fluency will be increasingly important. Thus, English language development is a focus of AIWA-SF.
Rima Darbinyan, is one of our dedicated English teachers. She is very enthusiastic about teaching English to the students and takes great pride in positively impacting their future. She loves her job as English teacher and the children. After class, she often stays past class time to help the students with homework and be a positive mentor and friend to them. She shares, “I adore my work, especially when I see the results and progress of the girls. It encourages me to want to do more and more.”
The 2018-2019 class includes 14 young girls who live at Mer-Hooys.
The students love the program and look forward to opportunities to practice English, especially with tourists who visit Armenia.
Recently, an alumna from our English program, Lilit, scored 18/20 on her English exam and is currently a student at Yerevan State University.
Thank you to all our AIWA-SF donors whose donations go to helping fund our important initiates, including our Educational programs.
