AIWA-SF Thrive: Hratch Achadjian

THRIVE is an AIWA-SF April project dedicated to highlighting Armenians who are doing amazing things in their personal and professional lives to better themselves and those around them.  These individuals are inspiring, dynamic, innovative and interesting. Today, we feature Hratch Achadjian.

Hratch Achadjian is the Head of Business Development for Quantum Computing at Google, where he focuses on preparing the Global 100 for the next evolution in computing. He has over a decade of experience helping companies prepare for shifts, evaluate and adopt enterprise cloud technology. Prior to joining Google, Hratch helped grow SADA Systems, an early-stage startup focused on cloud integration. He holds a B.S. in Finance from George Washington University. Hratch also sits on the board of two non-profits the Children’s Music Fund since 2010, and joined ReSurge International as a board advisor in 2017.

Question: What is your life philosophy?

The philosophy of my life stems from two quotes:
1. “The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” -Winston Churchill.
2. “The more you give the longer you live.” -Khatchik “Katcho” Achadjian (my dad).

Question: What is your hope for the future?

It is my hope that the current generations of young Armenian professionals realize it is important to engage beyond the Armenian community to raise the profile of Armenians and our story. Engagement above and beyond what exists today will drive our collective success.

Question: What is your favorite thing about being Armenian?

My wife, Nina Achadjian (maiden name: Kouyoumdjian). She inspires me in all that she does, her fervor for life, her drive at work, Index Ventures, and her and her immense capacity to give back to the Armenian community via projects like HIVE Ventures. Also being Armenian I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Lehmehjune and Mente.

Question: How has the Armenian culture shaped/influenced you?

Growing up in San Luis Obispo with an Armenian population not much bigger than my aunts and uncles in the area, my parents were intentional about instilling Armenian culture into the lives of my sister Nyri and I. Armenian culture has  countless examples of how to be resilient hence influencing me in every step along the way. Our culture drives me in all that I do to make my ancestors and family proud.
