AIWA-SF Thrive: Vache Shirikian

THRIVE is an AIWA-SF April project dedicated to highlighting Armenians who are doing amazing things in their personal and professional lives to better themselves and those around them. These individuals are inspiring, dynamic, innovative and interesting. Today, we feature Vache Shirikian.

Name: Vache Shirikian, Senior Software Engineer, Netflix

Vache Shirikian is a seasoned full-stack Software Engineer. For the past 3 years he has been at Netflix, focused on improving the quality of your streaming experience. Recently he reinvented how client teams deploy code to production through A/B testing. Before Netflix he spent 4 years at Apple building out their automation infrastructure, and before that 5 years at Lockheed Martin building custom software for a military satellite constellation. Outside of Netflix, you can find Vache spending his time with his 3yr old twin boys, playing basketball, and volunteering for various Armenian organizations. Vache holds a MSc in Software Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a BSc in Computer Science and Engineering from U.C. San Diego. A coder at heart – his curious nature is what drives him, and his knack for simplifying complex problems with custom tools is what makes him unique.

Question: What is your life philosophy?

“Your attitude, determines your altitude.”

Question: What is your hope for the future?

One small hope is for more unity and collaboration between local Armenian organizations with similar purpose. A big hope is for a thriving democratic Armenia which attracts the diaspora to invest in it.

Question: What is your favorite thing about being Armenian?

The culture, specifically the close-knit family aspect.

Question: How has the Armenian culture shaped / influenced you?

In every way possible. My motivation to work hard was influenced my parents and role-models. My desire to promote and elevate others around me was instilled in me through Homenetmen. My life’s goal of raising a healthy and happy family was shaped through the stories of my ancestors.
