AIWA-SF Thrive: Kim Bardakian

THRIVE is an AIWA-SF April project dedicated to highlighting Armenians who are doing amazing things in their personal and professional lives to better themselves and those around them.  These individuals are inspiring, dynamic, innovative and interesting. Today, we feature Kim Bardakian.

Kim B

Name: Kim Bardakian || Oakland, CA || Director of Media Relations, Kapor Center

Kim is a dynamic professional with a 20 year proven track record in bringing organizations and companies to the next level with media exposure, marketing savvy and event creation.

Kim uses her years of experience in her current role at the Kapor Center, as the Director of Media Relations. Prior to her current role she worked at Visit Oakland, the tourism board for the city where she passionately helped promote the best of the city to national and international media.

Throughout her life, Kim has been active in the Armenian community throughout her life where she has volunteered with a variety of organizations, including a founding member of the AGBU Young Professionals of Northern CA. She is currently a new Parish Council member at St. Vartan Church in Oakland and serves on the board of the Maynard Institute, a national organization dedicated to ensuring diversity in the newsroom.

Being Armenian has played a significant role in her personal and professional career. No matter where she goes, or who she meets, there’s often a connection tied back to her Armenian roots. She lives by the words written by author and writer William Saroyan, “For when two Armenians meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.”
A native New Yorker, Bardakian holds both a Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Arts from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI. She proudly resides in Oakland, CA where she is an avid tennis player.
